EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY OF PAINT (LIQUID PAINT)

The criteria to evaluate the finished paint include finess, solid function, density, viscosity KU, and coverage.

EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY OF PAINT (LIQUID PAINT)

Currently, Mega Vietnam New Materials Research and Development Center is evaluating finished paint (liquid paint) criteria based on Vietnamese standards (TCVN), and international standards (ASTM) and gives reliable results. The criteria to evaluate the finished paint include finess, solid function, density, viscosity KU, and coverage.

1. Determination of smoothness

Evaluation of the finess of finished paint based on TCVN 2091:2015
How to proceed:

+ Take a sample amount on the surface of the ruler, hold the knife perpendicular to the ruler and pull firmly.

+ Put under the lamp, observe and read the results quickly (no more than 3s).

+ As a result, the closest position on the scale appears to be coarse grain (5-10 grains).

2. Determine the solid function

Evaluation of the solid function of finished paint based on standard TCVN 10519:2014.
How to proceed:

+ Weigh the foil with mass m_o (g)

+ Take m₁ of the paint sample to be determined (about 1.5-3 g), dry it at a temperature of 120 ℃ to constant weight, and get m₂(g).

Calculation formulas: Solid function of paint = (m2-m1)/(m1-m0)

3. Density determination

Assess the density of the finished paint based on the standard TCVN 10237-1: 2013
How to proceed:

+ Weigh the density measuring cup, reset it to 0 and pour the paint sample to be measured into the density measuring cup.

+ Cover the beaker, swirl, and wipe off the excess sample

+ Weigh the cup containing the sample m(g)

Calculation formulas: Density= m / 100 (g/ml)

4. Determination of viscosity KU

Evaluation of the KU viscosity of the finished paint based on the standard TCVN 9879: 2013
How to proceed:

+ Mix the sample and adjust the temperature to 25^°C

Turn on the machine, place the sample on the measuring base and move the handle down.

Wait 5-10s for the viscosity to stabilize and record the value.

5. Determination of coverage

Evaluation of the coating coverage of the finished paint based on ASTM D344
How to proceed:

+ Wipe paint on paper to test the coverage, wet thickness 100 µm

+ Read test results after 5-15 minutes and draw conclusions.
